Jose Mourinho went into Manchester United‘s game against Newcastle United amid reports it would be his last in charge – but he appears to retain the backing of the club’s supporters.
A report in the Daily Mirror on Friday suggested Mourinho would be sacked irrespective of the result against Newcastle after last weekend’s defeat to West Ham United made this the Red Devils’ worst start to a season for 29 years.
The club has not directly commented on the report, but other sources insist Mourinho’s future has not already been decided – though a defeat to Newcastle would certainly pile on the pressure.
There are plenty who believe the main problems are not of Mourinho’s doing, however, and the home fans were quick to show their support for the Portuguese as he walked to the dugout before the game.

Whatever the truth behind the conflicting reports, Mourinho certainly didn’t appear to be feeling the pressure before kick-off, playfully squirting a water bottle at the BT Sport camera as he took up his seat.
Pressure? What pressure?
