Watch: Jurgen Klopp sends heartfelt message to terminally-ill Liverpool fan

A terminally-ill Liverpool supporter holding on to life to watch the Champions League final on Saturday received a wonderful gift on Friday – a heartfelt video message from Jurgen Klopp.

Dave Evans, a Reds fan from Coventry but now living in New Zealand, had booked a hotel in Madrid in anticipation of the final but instead is simply hoping he hangs on to watch it from his hospice bed.

When Stan Collymore heard Dave’s wife Liz, a mental health nurse, was trying to get video well wishes from Liverpool legends, he tweeted to Liverpool directly asking for a message from the squad.

‘Dear I have a little favour, if I may,’ Collymore tweeted. ‘Dave Evans is a Red from Coventry. He has terminal cancer and is holding on, very poorly to see the Final at home. One message from one of the boys will energise him beyond words. Let him know he’ll never walk alone.

Well, news of Dave’s battle reached Klopp, and on Friday he put final preparations aside to record a short but extremely heartfelt video.

Klopp said: “The only thing I can tell you is, ‘we think of you. You really are with us.’

“The only thing we try to do all year is to give people some hope, some joy, some moments to remember, and we share these moments, we share these experiences. That makes us friends.

“I wish you from the bottom of my heart all the best.”

Watch the full video below, shared by Collymore at the wishes of Dave and his wife, who tweeted: ‘Omg @StanCollymore I could kiss you . Thank you so so much , I screamed and burst into tears woke Dave up with my screaming and the nurses burst into the room . Lol amazing video that will be shared once Dave has watched the arse off it once again thank you so much Liz xxx YNWA’
