Watch: Lionel Messi shows off winners medal to his son in touching scenes

Lionel Messi showed off his Copa America winner’s medal to his son in touching scenes on Saturday night.

Messi went into Saturday’s final against Brazil having never won an international trophy with Argentina.

But the four-time runner-up at major tournaments saw his luck change at the Maracana as Angel Di Maria scored in the first-half to secure a 1-0 win for Argentina.

Messi had an eventful game, falling over when through on goal and finding time to console his former Barcelona team-mate Neymar.

And the legendary figure also found a moment to share this joyous moment with his son.

Messi called his son through FaceTime and showed Ciro the medal he has waited so long to wear around his neck.

Speaking after the game, Messi, via journalist Roy Nemer, said: ‘It’s crazy, the happiness I am feeling is not something that could be explained. I’ve left sad before but I knew that at one point it was going to happen.

“It was a lot [of] days where we were closed but the goal was clear and we were able to become champions. The happiness is immense. I’ve dreamed of this many times.”
