Watch: Joel Matip reacts hilariously to brilliant Alexander-Arnold tackle
Joel Matip has become renowned on Merseyside for his amusing antics on and off the pitch and he was at it again during Liverpool’s 3-1 Premier League win over Newcastle on Thursday night.
Trent Alexander-Arnold got most of the headlines after the game, for his goal in particular but also for a very important sliding challenge in the second half that stopped a certain Newcastle equaliser.
The player who was tackled, Ryan Fraser, went down in a heap and the Newcastle boss Eddie Howe claimed a penalty on the touchline.
Later, Howe said: “I’ve only seen it live but I assume that’s what VAR is there for but it’s a difficult one to complain too much about.
“Certainly other people’s opinions have been that it was a penalty, I don’t know but my feeling is the decision for the first goal [when Isaac Hayden was down injured] had the key bearing on the result today and that’s the one that really aggrieves me tonight.”
But Matip made very clear in very funny style what he thought of Fraser going down, waving his arms and pulling a face in the direction of the Magpies winger.
Referee Mike Dean agreed with Matip and waved play on.
In the video below, you can see Matip’s reaction to Alexander-Arnold’s tackle as well as a few of his other comedy moments from the game, including a vigorous complaint and a tussle with Callum Wilson that ends in Matip running away with his hands in the air.
At the end of the clip, Jordan Henderson also gets a tap in a delicate area from Mike Dean, which is really uncalled and quite weird for if you ask us.
