Watch: Liverpool’s Thiago skips past defender with an outrageous roulette
Hearts will have been in mouths for many Liverpool fans on Friday night as they watched their team take on a teenage Aston Villa side in the FA Cup.
After Sadio Mane gave the visitors an early lead, you would have been forgiven for thinking the game may end in double figures for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
But right before half-time, Louie Barry skipped through on goal for Villa and slotted home in style to equalise. Cue a feeling of dread dawning over Liverpool again.
The second-half went entirely their way, however. With the introduction of Thiago and Xherdan Shaqiri, the Reds were soon able to build to an emphatic win. Goals from Georginio Wijnaldum, Mohamed Salah and a second from Mane confirmed a 4-1 win and a place in the fourth round.
It was just Thiago’s third appearance since returning from injury, and he was clearly keen to make his mark. He delivered a baptism of fire to young Villain Edward Rowe, pirouetting around the midfielder with ease on the edge of the box.
We have seen the Spaniard’s excellent footwork on many occasions for Bayern Munich and Barcelona, and it looks like we may be treated to many more examples in the weeks to come as the Premier League title race hots up.
