Watch: Matic tells Jonny Evans’ wife to thank former Man Utd man for penalty

Nemanja Matic couldn’t help but have a cheeky joke at Jonny Evans’ expense when he found himself on a podcast with the former Manchester United defender’s wife Helen recently.

Evans made almost 200 appearances for United over eight years after making his debut for the club in 2007 before joining West Brom and establishing himself as one of the best defenders outside of the big six at Leicester City.

Leicester had the chance to leapfrog Manchester United and secure a place in the top four on the final day of the 2019-20 Premier League season, but Evans had a day to forget against his former club.

The Northern Ireland international conceded a 71st-minute penalty which Bruno Fernandes converted to give United the lead before receiving a red card in stoppage-time, which was compounded by Jesse Lingard scoring a late second for the visitors.

And Matic relished the chance to pay tribute to Evans while chatting to his wife Helen, promising to buy him a coffee the next time they cross paths.

Matić to Jonny Evans’s wife Helen: “I also want to ask you to say hello to Jonny and thank him for the penalty on the last game. I’ll buy him a coffee when I see him!” [UTD Podcast] from r/reddevils
