Watch: Memphis Depay reveals message for Van Dijk after scoring

Former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay revealed a message in support of Holland team-mate Virgil van Dijk after scoring for Lyon on Sunday night.

Van Dijk faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury following Jordan Pickford’s controversial challenge in Liverpool‘s 2-2 draw with Everton in the Merseyside derby.

Depay, who plays alongside Van Dijk for Holland and has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the past, opened the scoring for Lyon against Monaco in the 12th minute with a smart finish from inside the area.

The 26-year-old then lifted his shirt to reveal the message, ‘Virgil, stay strong my brother,’ written on his undershirt.

It marked the start of a stunning first half for Lyon, who led 4-1 at the break thanks to Arsenal target Houssem Aouar’s penalty and a Karl Toko Ekambi brace.
