Watch: Mourinho asks Bale if ‘he wants to go to Madrid and play no football’

Gareth Bale’s return to Tottenham hasn’t quite gone how the Welshman might have expected so far.

Back in North London on loan from Real Madrid, most of the four-time Champions League winner’s opportunities have come in the cup competitions, with just one start in the Premier League so far.

There has been plenty of speculation as to why Jose Mourinho has been reticent to use him, instead option for Steven Bergwijn or Lucas Moura to play alongside Son Heung-min and Harry Kane.

But we might just have our answer, thanks to this interesting behind-the-scenes tidbit from training, whereby the Portuguese coach appears to have concerns over Bale’s commitment and work-rate.

The Spurs manager seems to challenge Bale, and can be heard asking: “You want to stay here or go to Real Madrid and play no football?”

Just a word of warning, you’ll need to turn your speakers up to the max to hear it, and it’s faint, but it’s unmistakably Mourinho’s voice.
