Watch: Rio Ferdinand ecstatically celebrates Sterling’s goal vs Germany

Rio Ferdinand, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer couldn’t hide their emotions in the BBC Sport studio after Raheem Sterling scored England‘s opening goal against Germany in the Euro 2020 last-16 tie.

After a nervy first half, Sterling got on the end of Luke Shaw’s cross to score his third goal of the tournament in the 75th minute.

The goal sent fans in attendance at Wembley into a state of delirium and the BBC Sport pundits also celebrated wildly in the studio.

Former Manchester United and England defender Ferdinand was the most jubilant of the lot, leaping up and down next to a devastated Jurgen Klinsmann.

Harry Kane then doubled England’s lead in the 86th minute to book their place in the quarter-finals.

“Can we put some more respect on Raheem Sterling’s name,” Ferdinand said after the game. “I think when any bright sparks were coming through this team it was coming through Sterling.

“A fabulous player who has the courage and bravery at all times to take the ball to the opponents and today again got us off the mark and got us on the way to the win.”
