Watch: Rio explains why LFC defence can be exploited by ‘average’ players


Rio Ferdinand believes “average” players can exploit Liverpool‘s defensive issues this season and suggests Trent Alexander-Arnold is “at odds” with the instructions he is being given by Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool have struggled defensively in 2020-21, conceding 13 goals in their opening five Premier League fixtures, including seven at Aston Villa.

Klopp’s headache has only been compounded by injuries to two talismans at the back in Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk.

Speaking as a pundit on BT Sport ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Ajax, Ferdinand suggested structural issues -specifically the high line being deployed – are exposing Liverpool’s defence, especially without the presence of a natural sweeper keeper in Alisson.
