Watch: Unearthed video shows a young Lionel Messi tearing it up at Newell’s

Read anything about how a young Lionel Messi went from his boyhood club Newell’s Old Boys to Barcelona, and there’ll no doubt be a mention of his otherworldly natural talent. Well, now you can see for yourself.
Barcelona’s agreement to sign a 13-year-old Messi was famously signed on a napkin, and the rest is history: two decades later he’s a six-time Ballon d’Or winner with a strong shout as the greatest player of all time.
You can see from his time back in his home city of Rosario that the Argentinian icon was always a seriously special player, and even as a child you can recognise the way he moves with the ball, with that ridiculous dribbling ability.
“Knowing what we already know, that he is the player with the most games, the most goals, the most assists and the most titles in the history of Barca, it is more exciting if you can see what Messi was capable of as a child,” is the translation of the caption by journalist Juanma Romero.
“A chosen one for this game.”
