Watch: Virgil van Dijk prevents near-certain goal with perfectly timed tackle


Liverpool moved 16 points clear at the top of the table after their 1-0 win over Spurs – but they had to rely on a brilliant tackle from Virgil van Dijk. 

Jurgen Klopp’s side dominated the game in the first half and they took the lead through Roberto Firmino in the 37th minute.

Spurs improved in the second half and Dele Alli looked to be through on goal before Van Dijk showed amazing powers of recovery to kill the attack with one brilliant tackle.

Son Heung-Min and Giovani lo Celso then missed some glorious chances to equalise late on as Liverpool held on for a massive win.

The Reds now have become the first team in history to take 61 points out of the first 63 in one of Europe’s top five leagues.
