Liverpool’s talismanic defender Virgil van Dijk made sure Wolves winger Adama Traore was going nowhere, as the Reds secured a 2-0 win away at Molineaux last night.
van Dijk was also on the scoresheet for Liverpool as they extended their unbeaten run to 18 games. This means they will be top of the league for Christmas, four points clear of title rivals Manchester City.
In the second half, Adama Traore looked like he was through on goal and burst into the Liverpool half with gusto. However, van Dijk kept pace with his man and won the ball back with ease, barely breaking stride.
Traore was left on the floor, while van Dijk wasn’t even out of breathe.
This was Liverpool’s 11th clean sheet of the season and van Dijk has played a huge part in their defensive stability. His performances will be key if the Reds are to go all the way to winning their first Premier League title this season.
