Watch: Fabrizio Romano has update on Arsenal’s Youri Tielemans pursuit

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans in recent months – and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided some clarification.

Tielemans, who joined Leicester for an initial £32million from Monaco in 2019, has been a standout performer for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

But the midfielder has just one year left on his contract at the King Power Stadium and is now looking for a new challenge.

“That is not out of the question,” Tielemans said in June when asked about a possible move this summer.

“I feel very good at Leicester, I was welcomed with open arms from day one. I’ll give everything for the club until the last day.

“But of course you have to listen to other opportunities, you have to look at your career, and sometimes you have to make choices. Maybe one will come my way.”

Alongside Manchester United, Arsenal are one of the teams that have been monitoring his situation in recent months.

The Gunners have already spent over £100million this summer, signing Marquinhos, Matt Turner, Fabio Vieira, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

But Romano has revealed that Arsenal are still pursuing Tielemans and the midfielder is also keen on a move to the Emirates.

“It’s his priority,” Romano told CBS Sports. “I would say it’s a clear choice because the player would love the move. He would love to join Arsenal but it’s up to Arsenal to submit a proposal and to go strong for him.

“He’s been waiting for Arsenal since April and May. This is when the contacts started and they are still there. They are discussing but still no official bid and just approaches and contacts.

“It’s up to them now to decide if they want to go for Tielemans as a priority after signing Zinchenko or if they want to go for different positions.”
