Watch: Man Utd’s Zidane Iqbal pulls off insane Maradona turn in friendly

Manchester United starlet Zidane Iqbal seems to be relishing his chance to impress during the club’s pre-season tour.

The 19-year-old Iraq international made his senior debut as a late substitute in a 1-1 draw with Young Boys in the Champions League last December.

He hasn’t made another competitive first-team appearance since, but he’s shone in the youth set-up and it’s surely only a matter of time on the evidence of his cameos in this summer’s friendlies.

Fresh from sending Fabinho for a hotdog in United’s impressive 4-0 victory over Liverpool earlier this week, Zidane once again caught the eye with a stunning Maradona turn against Melbourne Victory.

Zidane was introduced at half-time for Scott McTominay as United fought back from a goal behind to beat Victory 4-1 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, and received rave reviews from those watching.

“Zidane Iqbal has heaps of technical quality, skill and intelligence – importantly with the personality to match it,” tweeted Sky Sports journalist Melissa Reddy in response to his latest display.

“He demands the ball, moves, scans, never hides and is not scared of making a mistake in trying to execute what he feels is the right decision.”

New manager Erik ten Hag has famously been eager to call upon young players during his coaching career, particularly at Ajax, and he looks set to continue United’s proud tradition of leaning upon their academy.

“I have said before, already, that I think Manchester United has a huge potential and really good players,” Ten Hag told reporters, speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of today’s friendly.

“You have experienced players but also a lot of young boys who have a lot of potential, and now we have to get that potential out.

“To do that we have to work really hard. Man United is famous for it and Marcus Rashford is, I think, a symbol of the academy of Manchester United and more upcoming talents who come after.”

Here’s the moment midway through the second half that had United fans raving about their very own Zizou.
